YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS AWARD (YWPA)

Zonta Club of Lockport recognizes woman in secondary education's

commitment to volunteerism and the advancement of the status of women.

To view this year's recipient, please see our Local Scholarships page.

The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award is offered because Zonta International

believes that young women are the key to women’s advancement in the field of public service.

This YWPA award recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating

leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes, and

encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life.

Established in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, Zonta International

has given 971 awards totaling US $1,109,250 to 819 young women from 58 countries.

The program operates at 3 levels -

Zonta Club level

District/Region level

International level

Winners from our local clubs move on to compete at the District level.

Those District level winners then move onto Zonta International level.

The Zonta Club of Lockport awards US $750 annually.

District recipients receive US $1,500.

Ten Zonta international recipients are selected from the district/region

winners to receive awards of US $5,000 each.
